Gallery Ordering
Wildernessphotographs.com is a unique gallery not only in subject matter, but also in that images are not constrained to standard proportions. As a photographer, to me every element in a scene serves a purpose, and is too important for me to crop out in the name of fitting my image to a standard print size. I therefore print, mat, and frame all my photos in the same exact custom proportions that you see on your screen.
Print quality
I use White House Custom Color, a professional photo lab, for all my printing. I like them because they focus on image fidelity and quality, and are happy to meet my custom needs. If your computer monitor is correctly calibrated (it shows correct hues and doesn't have a 'tint'), the colors you see will be the exact same colors as in the final print. All photos are printed on Kodak Professional Endura paper with a 'lustre' finish, which features a slight sheen and is very similar to the traditional matte finish.
Finishing options
For my matting and framing needs, I use two online custom framing companies, which offer far more options than a local frame shop could. I offer a selection of matting and framing options that compliment your photo. All mattes and frames are custom-cut to the exact dimensions of your photo. I only use archival-quality matboards, which don't degrade and yellow over time as other economy matboards do. I also present custom-cut metal and wood frames for you to mount your photo in.
Finally, to protect your photo, I offer custom-cut crystal-clear acrylic sheets- a lightweight alternative to glass that will not break or shatter. In lieu of these standard mounting options, your photographic print can also be bonded to a 2mm thick Styrene board, a moderately stiff, lightweight plastic sheet - a great option if you prefer to present your photo in a frame but without a matboard for backing.
Mat and frame color are usually the photographer's choice, with frequent use of blacks and whites to contrast with the image. However, if you have any specific requests or questions concerning custom finishing options email me beforehand at johnathan@wildernessphotographs.com, and I most likely will be able to accommodate them. You may have special requests concerning double mats, mat and/or frame color, UV or anti-glare acrylic sheets, or a text caption inserted into a solid-colored border around the photo. Color requests will generally not incur any extra fees, but other value-added options may.
Shipping info
You can usually receive your photo within 1-4 weeks of ordering. The more finishing options you select, the longer it will take, as I work with several independent companies to finally bring the best possible final product together. Larger-sized frames may be shipped to you unassembled, to unsure they do not get damaged in shipping. All frames come with any needed assembly and hanging metalware, and are quite easy to finish assembling. You may need a tool such as a screwdriver.
I charge a standard shipping fee of $5 to the United States. This is automatically added to your order during the checkout process. I charge a standard fee of $10 USD for shipments to Canada, and $15 USD to anywhere else in the world. Due to limitations in my shopping cart system, if you are selecting an international shipping address, you must manually add on the additional cost above $5. If you don't, I will contact you with a friendly reminder to pay the additional $5 or $10 charge.
About my embedded signature
I add a small digital signature to a lower corner of each print. In addition, I personally sign and date each photograph on the back, either directly on the print paper, on a label, or on the matboard. I also hand-write the location of the photograph. I do this to add value and a touch of personal meaning to each photograph I sell.
Taking care of your photo
As with any piece of artwork, proper care should ensure its long-life. I use conservation-quality materials to do everything possible on my end, and trust you will care for your photo as well. Placing a photo in direct sunlight will lead to fading, unless you specially request a UV-resistant acrylic cover pane. Also, avoid putting your photo in an environment with excessive moisture. All photos should be stored protected from the elements, in a protective plastic sleeve or under a sheet of glass or acrylic (plexiglass).
My guarantee
I personally inspect each photo to ensure its highest quality, and that the final image accurately portrays the scene as I remember it the day I took the photograph. Even so, if you are not satisfied with the quality of your photo, I will gladly refund you, less any round trip shipping charges, as long as you return the photo undamaged and in its original condition and packaging within 10 days of receipt.
